Pros
Good benefits, decent pay, quick bike-ride to work (if you live in Davis), like to hire from within, friendly and pleasant research community
Cons
Work overtime without receiving overtime pay, must rub elbows with everyone constantly or your scientific career will be hell here, so much red tape that nothing can ever get done, horrible hiring practices (prefer to hire an unqualified individual from the UCD pool than a qualified individual from an applicant pool). Positions are under-paid considering the responsibilities involved (in my case at least). It all boils down to poor leadership and spending preferences at the top of the chain.
