Pros

UC Davis offers a generous benefits package to all employees, including health, dental and vision all covered for as low as $6.50 out of pocket. You can also find relative job stability/security, particularly if your job is protected in a union.

Cons

Unfortunately, you can also expect low pay (relative to private industry), slow career advancement, and no incentive for hard work. Like most jobs associated with the state government, promotions are based on time served (and occasionally favoritism) rather than ability or achievements. Recently, even cost of living raises were suspended, effectively halting the only form of raises some employees will ever see.

Pros

Good benefits and working with smart people.

Cons

PhD faculty run the show entirely, no matter their level of expertise relative to professional staff.

Pros

There is a great variety of specialty cases and access to specialists at the Veterinary School . You will learn a lot. The best part is that you will be working with veterinary students! The pay and benefits are also very good.

Cons

The environment has very low morale. It is very difficult to find help, move positions, get experience in other departments. Like any large institution, people who work at the Veterinary school tend to become complacent, and without proper management and opportunities for advancement, good employees become demoralized and feel unappreciated. It's too easy to sink to the level of mediocraty.
