Pros

Sunny and dry climate; Excellent Library Services; A few excellent staff/ faculty

Cons

My experience was bad because of terrible mentor, cronyism/ conflict of interest was rampant in my department. Department Chairs hire family, bypassing the better qualified. Unfortunate, but some terrible faculty here get promoted because peer review is severely lacking. Faculty are too busy to see what is happening. A thirty year hire can really wreck a department and it did

Pros

If you have a luck with your boss, it is very satisfying. Nice campus. I found most people open minded and easy to work with. Challenging and encouraging scientific atmosphere. Good food.

Cons

The city of Riverside sucks, overzealous accounting - getting a travel paperwork through may be a nightmare.
