Pros

If enrolled in the PhD program there is usually funding available for you, either through TA positions or grants. It doesn't pay very much but you don't have to pay for tuition and it is enough money to live on.

Cons

Few to no opportunities for pay raises or salary increases. As you spend more time in the program the small salary becomes more of a problem as living expenses increase. Should be more opportunity for outside support and professional development help from advisors.

Pros

Nice work environment, peers, and supervisors. Very understanding of students' hours considering it is part-time.

Cons

Busy and hard to manage during couple of weeks leading to finals, since the labs get swarmed.
