Lack of accountability

Pros

UCR offers a decent salary above the postdoc level and there is a good amount of freedom as in any other research institution.

Cons

I am appalled at the lack of accountability I have seen at UCR. Graduate students and postdocs are used and discarded without regard for their careers. Some faculty's lack of ethics and a system designed to protect them makes this a very bad place to grow. Fortunately not all faculty is the same but some bad apples spoil the whole bunch.

Pros

UCR has great benefits and vacation.

Cons

I wish they would promote within without have to go through the whole interview process.
