Pros

There are great student resources on campus, and UCR is generally a supportive environment. The surrounding community is growing and developing.

Cons

There is a fair amount of crime in the neighborhood near campus, and the pay is quite low - though comparable to other graduate student positions. Departments vary in how supportive they are of graduate students.

Pros

Dynamic environment id you are looking to work in a lab and gain experience. Looks great on resume.

Cons

Personal outcome depends a lot on your PI and what he/she assigns you. Make sure you research who the PI for the lab is and become acquainted with the lab's research.
