Pros

Helping students struggling in classes feels great. As a UTA, it is easier to empathize with the students about the difficulties of certain subjects more due to having recent experience in taking classes. Also get to review material to help solidify information.

Cons

Always have to be ready whether it be on Piazza or during office hours to answer difficult or unexpected questions.

Great benefits, no significant salary raise.

Pros

The community is great! The people that work for Santa Barbara really care about the students. Work is inclusive. Great benefits.

Cons

HR and the institution always denies raises. Santa Barbara is an expensive town. Because the pay for advisor positions is low, departments have low retention rates because advisors are always leaving. This results in departments being short staffed and current employees have double to triple the work with little compensation.
