Great working environment, friendly staff and generally relaxed pacing. The university environment is always humming with activity and there's lots of external events to be involved with

Cons

Organizational change happens at a glacial pace, lots of layers of bureaucracy, academics are given otherwise unsupportable/unethical leeway based on their contribution to funding/research efforts - this creates a large perceptive power gap when dealing with these individuals

-Good medical benefits and retirement plans -Working with students was fun, challenging and dynamic

Cons

Nepotism in mid-level and upper management in Student Affairs promotes inexperienced employees to management positions. Lack of opportunities to move up unless someone leaves, retires or you know the right people. Unprofessional work environment and inappropriate, gossipy office culture. Pay is not conducive to living in Santa Barbara if you are a non-academic staff member. Reactionary messaging for community issues. Work/life balance is often discussed, but not honored or promoted.
