Pros

-other nurses are very friendly and helpful -you get to pick your assignments -most days you get a lunch break -streamlined epic charting system

Cons

-employee parking sucks -nurse educators aren’t particularly helpful -lots of utilization of midlevel providers that tend to be arrogant and pretend to be MDs -nurses are treated like idiots, not respected at all by midlevels -although you pretty much always get a lunch break, it’s typically 10-15 minutes and you don’t get another break -no educational opportunities -poor retention, lots of travelers -HEAVY auditing of charting, you will get emails about every detail you possibly missed (e.g. you didn’t chart a 1400 turn, you didn’t chart a 1200 oral care, etc) -there are days you will be tripled

Pros

-Transparent and accessible leadership -Excellent opportunities for career development (tuition reimbursement, professional development courses) -Bonuses for all eligible employees each year

Cons

-Archaic beliefs towards remote work. In several fields (patient safety, clinical quality, trauma coordination) 99% of work is done via email and virtual meetings, and yet they insist we commute to work so we can sit in a cubicle for a virtual meeting....why? One of the core tenets of UCHealth is innovation--we have this word emblazoned on our badges--and yet they refuse to innovate the way we work, after we have proven we can work from home with success for almost two years during covid. It's foolish and embarrassingly backwards.
