Opportunity For Successful Merger Squandered

Pros

With the 2013 merger of University of Colorado Hospital with Poudre Valley Health System, some of the benefits remained and there were still many hard-working employees left from the previous PVHS system when I left that remembered and lived the PVHS values and culture that had made it such a great employer and healthcare provider for the community.

Cons

Failing to replace employees that left in favor of eliminating entire positions and redistributing the workload. Adding additional managers and supervisors who spend more time tracking performance metrics and commuting back and forth to meetings to discuss them instead of spending more time on site or on the floors providing guidance and support to their teams---None of this seemed to actually improve the numbers, let alone employee engagement or patient care.

Pros

Amazing benefits- especially the retirement plans, tremendous leadership, caring and compassionate culture, opportunities to learn every minute, growth and potential for passionate, engaged employees

Cons

Our organization still struggles with access to technology. It's better in some areas than others. We need systems to help us be more efficient.

Pros

Evidence based practice teaching facility with endless learning opportunities. Tools and resources in place to do great things. Very supportive of nursing advancement and research based on individual passions.

Cons

As the system as increased in size the environment has become very corporate. Bureaucracy often stands in the way of best practice. Recently discontinued paid weekend differential that resulted in huge bedside nursing losses and and influx of new-grad and inexperienced nurses.
