Pros

Autonomy to manage projects, people within department are great to work with

Cons

Supervisors have zero idea on proper management skills and lack appropriate communication to effectively manage. In addition, supervisors do not advocate for employees to leadership for salary increase or title increase. The department sits in a comfortable stasis without a desire to put in effort to change processes to make operations more efficient. There is not much opportunity for growth within a group unless someone retires or leaves his or her position. Lastly, there is a value on long-term retention with excellent pension for tenured employees; this is not a company for those who want to learn quickly, work hard, anticipate risk, and seek high compensation in the shorter-term
