Pros

UCLA is a great environment, and offers nice benefits. Provides a good balance between work and personal life. Even with the state cutbacks in funding, positions are relatively stable.

Cons

In general, it seems that for professional positions the culture does not reward innovation. While there is plenty of innovative research happening on campus, the professional, management side of the University in some support areas are less than eager to back innovation. There is lip service to it, but not a real leadership for creating a culture that would aim to be more than just average. Since the culture is based on a management hierarchy, change is a very slow process.
