Run, run away fast

Pros

Easy to get a job Have a great "mission"

Cons

Run away from this company. They are horribly mismanaged. This company doesn't have any smart leaders. When they don't know how to manage their business, they hire a new VP and reorganize the company (every 18-20 months). Most of the people in Director or above positions have NO IDEA how to run a business or manage people, they provide no value and are "stuck" in the old ways (this is how we have always done it). It's all about who you know - if you are friends with (or have dirt on) the C-suite, you have it made in the shade - if not, don't expect any career movement. Zero opportunities for career growth or advancement, they don't give raises or promotions to current employees and offer more money to new hires. Because of all the re-orgs the business spins in circles, every year we get a new boss and they have a new direction. So we change our course to align with the new boss' goals, create new processes, and try to learn the "new way" of working....just to have them "organized out" of the job in 12-16 months. Then there is a new boss, new goals, and the process starts all over again - rinse and repeat over and over again. Work ANYWHERE else!

We understand that the marketing team has undergone more change than other parts of the business. We recognize that ‘how we’ve always done it’ must adapt, and that requires changes in leadership, organization, and process. For compensation, we price every role in the business individually. We include every employee in the annual employee incentive bonus program. We take your feedback seriously and appreciate you sharing this feedback.

Pros

- Easy work - Very stable job - Culture isn't toxic - Good benefits with competitive 401k matching

Cons

- Onboarding was poor - Poor training process for new hires - Work is very repetitive - Unorganized - Low professional growth - Some managers like to micromanage - Very low pay for those without a Engineering degree with small opportunities for promotion - Small bonuses and raises due to work being easy - Required to be onsite 5 days a week - No amenities onsite (gym, lunch, and snacks). Only Coffee, water, and tea is provided - Majority of Senior Management do not have experience working at other companies - A lot of rules for security purposes. No phones or backpacks are allowed in working areas but management doesn't provide employees with locks or enough lockers to secure their belongings. - During the summer depending on your shift everyone is required to work 4:30 am - 4:30 pm

One of the unique things about working at UL Solutions is that we get to see new products before they hit the market. Our customers are some of the biggest and most beloved brands, and they trust us to keep their new products in a secure environment to ensure confidentiality until their products officially launch. This requires our labs and lab employees to work under strict guidelines, like keeping belongings secured. For those working in our labs, that work is hands-on testing, requiring employees to be onsite five days a week to run those crucial safety tests. Across the organization, we have some roles that are fully remote and many others that are hybrid. Just like other organizations, our service offerings are vast and range from relatively simple to highly complex, with job requirements and compensation in line with each position.

Pros

If you have a good manager, you are given a lot of time and leeway to solve problems. Generally respectful of your time outside of work and allows for flexible hours.

Cons

Manager-type roles are more valued than any developer role. That can cause bad managers to lead to exceedingly and needless stress. They have exceedingly bad pay relative to the industry.
