Pros

Steady work, I can not remember, but I am sure the benefits are pretty good.

Cons

Big brother is always watching over your shoulder. Your performance is constantly monitored via the computer systems. Working in the freezer is cold, haha. Receive, store and issue repair parts. Establish and maintain stock control and accounting records. Conduct location surveys and periodic inventories. Establish and maintain records for both manual and automated maintenance management systems. Prepare input and interpret the output of these systems. Maintenance of budgetary/fiscal management process. Request, receive and issue repair parts and supplies in support of maintenance operations. Control and issue tools and test equipment. Transport repair parts and/or supplies to other workers or areas using material handling equipment (MHE) or commercial vehicles, as required. Prepare periodic reports. Complete maintenance, supply and administrative forms and other paperwork related to performance of duties.

Pros

Large complex company with plenty to learn. Never bored. They focus on both grocery stores and distribution along with the reselling of grocery services such as store design, IT services, accounting, etc. They are one of the largest grocers in the US giving them significant resources for investment in systems and business initiatives. They have grown significantly through acquisitions which always keep the staff busy and leads to a dynamic and active environment.

Cons

Like many companies, SVU is outsourcing to India for IT and business services. This poses significant challenges to both on and offshore resources to successfully execute on projects. Many off hour meetings, long days, etc. This is no different than many other IT shops. Additionally, the company is headquartered in MN and as expected most of the hiring is done there. The senior managers, decisions makers, and most initiatives are all located at the MN locations. Resources at other locations, while treated well and fairly, are likely at a disadvantage for career advancement unless they are willing to move.
