Pros

The compensation and benefits at Supervalu are middle of the road according to Salary.com. The employees respect each other and work well together. The company culture is relaxed and somewhat informal.

Cons

Personal development and advancement opportunites are very poor. The promotion process has become very complex and requires an incredible amount of documentation. In order to be promoted you have to provide incredibly detailed information about past projects. Since the promotion process is fairly new, no one knew to keep track of all this past information. (Lesson learned!!) Since the company doesn't have the information, if you don't have it either . . . oh, well . . . no promotion for you! Also, American associates are being replaced by outsourced associates from India.

Pros

Company is trying to move toward best practices.

Cons

IT support has been outsourced, so when something is broken, the offshore contractors have no clue how to fix it. Every few months they lay off another group of experienced programmers who know the systems and understand the needs of the business.

Pros

The benefits are fairly good, if you are in an exempt level position. Exempt staff are without a doubt treated far superior to hourly and union staff. You will receive corporate and multi-state experience. There can be benefits to working for a fortune 100 company (at least on your resume). Location was nice (easy commute from I-5). If you were in tight with management you did OK in the organization. If you like a kiss-a$$ company, this is the place for you. Brown nosing is the surest way to move up the food chain at SuperValu, in my honest opinion.

Cons

Leadership (lack of leadership). You will work long hours for low pay in exempt level positions. No decision making power unless you are at the corporate site (Eden Prarie). If you are hourly, you will get no where unless you are well liked. Pay is low at non-management and hourly non-union level. Individuals are fired at will (if you are not liked). No decision making or autonomy at the individual contributor level either. The building is old and moldy (the windows leak). The offices for non-management are in cubicles so you can not have a private conversation. Pay is LOW!
