      Fear Driven Management Techniques Do Not Work

      Pros

      Working with the patients and families are my focus. The patients are terrific. Most of my co-workers are caring and invested in the patients. I am grateful for the benefit package-they could do better. Some supervisors are caring and supportive.

      Cons

      Upper management is way out of touch with employees. Fear driven techniques are ineffective- it is 2012 is it not? Very task driven- more, more, more, more and more is expected. Employees are not rewarded unless you are connected politically. The attitude of father knows best is outdated and ineffective. System is fractured. Employees are not respected. Benefits for a steep price to employee.

      Pros

      UPMC is always having some sort of learning workshop. UPMC is very education-minded, which is important for a health-care facility!

      Cons

      Some managers of the departments don't know the first thing about scheduling. The schedules are so random that you wonder if they used a roulette wheel to put the schedule together!

      - Solid benefits, especially health insurance - Pleasant work environment since moving to US Steel building - Exposure to all lines of business in the health insurance industry - Growing

      Cons

      - Pay is average, not too competitive - Lots of opportunities for advancement at lower levels, much more scare as you move upward - You find out key company information in the local newspaper before finding out from management.
