Pros

Some great opportunities to contribute to national security. Many pockets of excellence across the agency. Good advancement and educational opportunties. Opportunites for world wide assignements.

Cons

Bloated upper management. Way too many SESs and DISLs. The performance evaluation system flawed, overinflated and not normed across the agency. Many seniors are out of touch with current best practices. A careerist attitude and status weigh down performance, Employees are worried about the size of their offices and their parking spots. Security is an afterhought.

Pros

Gets you into the Department of Defense and the Intelligence Community. Jobs are meaningful--you're supporting the military. Great travel and deployment opportunities.

Cons

Exceptionally poorly led--for a long time. At Boling Air Force Base which is in a tough neighborhood. Parking is difficult. Food on site is horrible.

Pros

rewarding work, great benefits, flexible schedule, lots of professional training/development opportunities

Cons

Military organization, and every General/Admiral wants their own staff of analysts. SO they rob core DIA analysts from their "real" jobs to go on rotations to cover topics in which they have no interest and no experience, and produce products which go nowhere beyond their principal. If you're an analyst, expect it to happen. Also, you get the sense that your work is duplicative, given the number of similar organizations doing the same work. Be prepared to find a way to stand out, because chances are, every alphabet soup organization has somebody doing exactly what you're doing.
