Pros

Federal government employment, air conditioning

Toxic leadership; management by good ole boys; retired military in senior leadership roles don't know how to manage civilians and are lazy and stubborn; ill-defined mission; zero accountability; EEO nightmare.

Pros

Use the agency to get your security clearance and some experience, then bail.

Cons

The agency was the most corrupt place I worked. Incompentence and politics are rewarded. The only thing that seems to matter is who you know and how good you are at sucking up. DIA's leadership is considered one of the worst in the Intelligence Community. So many jobs and promotions are wired.

Great Mission

Pros

There are many talented, smart people working at DIA who put up with many workplace annoyances because they are dedicated to the mission. DIA has broad responsibilities in the Defense and Intelligence communities so there are many different ways you can contribute. If you are looking for opportunities to work in national security and see the world, DIA is a good place to work - but you have to pursue opportunities rather than waiting for them to drop into your lap.

Cons

Senior leadership. Based on several years of inconsistent, if not outright bad , leadership at the top of the agency senior civilian leaders are gun shy about making a decision, pursuing a new course. Leaders who demonstrate moral courage or a different perspective are usually shut down so everyone can stay the course. The workforce succeeds despite their senior leaders but that model can only be sustained for so long.
