      Pros

      relaxed work environment, lots of time off, opportunity to work in scenic places.

      Cons

      No promotion potential unless your a vet, have a masters degree, or do a lot of butt kissing. Lots of wasting resources and unnecessary over site. occasional nepotism witnessed.

      Pros

      Side projects, special interests, training and leeway to dive into what interests you is possible and accessible. Flexible work schedule. Optimal travel time.

      Cons

      It may be difficult to access those perks without considerable effort. Director does not appear to care about employees or be a team player. Upper level management and some direct supervisors are biologists, not good with people and don't recognize when morale is low. Work load is a LOT.

      Mission of the Service. Strong conservation ethic and public service ethos. Some amazingly dedicated, hard working, and motivated scientists,

      Cons

      While many hard working, top notch scientists are in the agency, there are some low/poor performers. Federal employment practices hamstring supervisors from rewarding good performance and correcting/firing poor performers.
