USFWS does great work in the field- work environment could stand to be improved!
Pros
The work/life balance is good, and benefits are good, but your hands are tied in a lot of ways because "that's how the government does it"
Cons
There are a lot of retirements and management is choosing to not backfill....so a lot of people are over worked. Being a government employee is worse than being a tenured employee- you pretty much cannot be fired. This is good if you are a great employee, but if you aren't it's terrible for your coworkers around you. You can not do your job, or have poor attendance, or be rude to other people or any other number of things with little to no consequence. Unless you are physically abusive or commit a crime, your coworkers are stuck with you! It's really hard to get a government job starting out, unless you come in as a student, your are retired military, you have a disability, or are a veteran with a disability.
