      The Marine Corps is a good starting career, but beware of the contorl they will have over your life.

      Pros

      To Serve our country first of all. Joining the military also gives many chances to learn a trade and keep skilled on it. Also there are many opprtunities for education if you know where to look.

      Cons

      Deployments, I have done five in the past six years. Your stuck you cannot quit. The first enlistment is not as enjoyable, juniors in certain units are not always treated with much respect. Sometimes your treated by worker bees by those immediately above you because they are inexperinced and are taught to lead that way. Some opportunities are not available such as education depending on your command and mission. Some Commanders will not approve leave and education just because of a small risk of not having you available for a few hours a week. The military gets into your personal life more than any other job as well.

      Pros

      I enjoy working in the US Marine Corps because of the espirit de corps that exists, the extreme camraderie. The ingenuity of the non-commissioned officers also provides junior commissioned officers such as myself a strong support network.

      Cons

      Senior officers are often stubborn to change. Many of the senior officers I work with lack a creative outlook on complex problems due to the fact that they have spent an extensive amount of time working within a relatively constricting environment. Another downside is the disorganization that can occur at the expense of the individual Marine's welfare. A tangible example of this would be our redeployment from Iraq taking 3 days instead of 18 hours as planned.

      Pros

      Honor to be part of the few and the proud. The Marine Corps has the toughest training out of all the military branches. No matter how fit you are, boot camp will definately challenge you. After you finish boot camp you go to a school for the job were given. After you are done with school you will got a unit. With your unit you will perform your job. No matter what job you have you will also do combat training. If all you want to do is shoot then join the infantry. You will have a lot of adventures but it won't really help you acquire skills helpful when you go back to being a civilian.

      Cons

      Constantly keeps you away from family. You have seven month deployments and most of the time you won't be home for Christmas. No matter what, I 'm proud to have serve four years. Now that I did my part I could leave the Marine Corps and catch up on family time.
