Pros

The benefits and the opportunities available in the Navy are hard to beat. Plus, in economic times like these, the job stability is a plus!

Cons

Extremely demanding hours and work environment at times. I'm a Surface Warfare Officer, and in addition to 6+ month deployments that you will encounter every 18-24 months, there is also duty days and "work-ups" in which the ship will also spend time at sea and away from home. The demands of the military are also very stressful, and you have to be very flexible with your own time.

Pros

the pay and the benefits are ok. advancement in theory is fair being by a test however... evaluations also play a part in that and if you haven't been kissing someones ass then don't expect the good evaluation i dont care how good your work/ work ethic is

Cons

first don't expect to have a life outside the navy the hours are long and the list goes on all around a horrible place to be it is a bad place to be when you have senior leadership doing the stuff they tell everyone else not to do fairness, fratanizing, breaking every rule they say

Pros

Unlimited ability to advance and improve. Sense of pride and accomplishment that can be obtained nowhere else. They give you all the training you need, provide a full ride through school if you are willing to work for it, and there is less discrimination than almost anywhere you could work.

Cons

The downside would certainly be having to deploy away from family for extended periods of time in colse quarters with others and having little to no personal space. Another down side is obviously the money. While the compensation is fair considering that most come in at the entry level with little or no education, it is still just not a lot of money.
