Pros

The Navy is a meritocracy and hard work and dedication will take you far. In general, the people you work with are great. Lots of opportunity for travel and professional development. For many specialities, the salary and benefits are very competitive.

Cons

You can expect to work long hours with no overtime. You are required to move frequently. You will be put in harm's way.

Pros

If your looking for a place to find your technical skills and learn to work around problems then this is for you. Overall your view is going to be VERY much part of where you work. Some will love their job others will hate it. It gives a great chance for growth in abilities.

Cons

Leaders can at times not fully understand their jobs thus making your life worse You don't just have to do your job, it is a "crew" ideal Promotion is sketchy at best while you can always make rank it is is in many cases based entierly on the time you have spent in not on how hard or good you work. Don't be fooled your not hacking away at computers or tearing into the newest things on the planet your most likely working on 40+ year old gear that is falling apart or takes 100 parts to do what your cell phone does.

Pros

-There is a lot of pride associated with serving in the US Navy. -Compensation is very competitive, especially at the lower levels. -Lots of opportunities to gain leadership opportunities throughout all levels of the organization. -Lots of opportunities to change jobs and do something different temporarily or totally change tracks.

Cons

-If you enter the armed services during war times you are agreeing to potential put your life on the line for others and serve in hostile areas. That is not necessarily a con for some. -Can be a very political organization, however probably not significantly more than others (private or public) -The military is a different culture from civilian, things that would just look bad on the outside world can get you in real trouble on the inside.
