Pros

See the word, adventure abound. Steady paycheck. Uniform with a superhero cape. Defend freedom and democracy around the world. Take on real challenges civilians will never face, especially at 20 years old.

Cons

Nobody cares about the enlisted man's needs. The needs of the Navy always come first. You will spend most of your time at sea, and when in home port, most of your time on the ship. Every 6th day you will have to stay aboard the ship no matter what is going on in your life (literally my apartment had burned down the night before, and my wife was on her own to handle it, because I had duty). Foreign deployment is the only rewarding part of being a sailor.

Pros

You get to travel the world and it is almost like you never left high school. If you are good at being a suck-up/kissass, then this is the job for you.

Cons

Everyone above your position will do their best to make you feel unimportant and make you want to quit. On top of that you have people that have been in so long that they try to stay in longer and try to get you kicked out so they can make more money. You are always on your own once you are past your initial year.
