Pros

Nothing good to say, The PSE's are great people, and the work itself is easy. USPS is dying slowly due to the internet shopping, email, and companies like UPS and FedEx!

Cons

They start with the PSE position, tell you that it is only until you convert to become what they consider a "career." They tell you it will only be 1 to 1.5 years to do so, not true. I've been there for 7 months, have only seen 1 person crossover, they were already hitting their 2yr mark. They also tell you that you will be working at most 6 day on, 1 day off (not true.) My first stretch was 14 days, 1 day off.The union mentality is a hinderance. Because there is no benefit to working harder then everyone else to achieve advancement because everyone gets paid equal. Also if you stand out they pull you in, act like they are giving you a "promotion", it's not. They will move you into a job that no one wants to do, act like you owe them something when you are getting paid the same to do a job that pays the career employees double. They constantly don't give you breaks, have you miss lunches.

Pros

Pay is excellent. I have an awesome post master who cares about her employees.

Cons

The work is hard. You have to case all the mail for your route, load all the packages according to first in first out. Lots of bending and lifting. Much more physical work then I ever thought.

Pros

I got hired in 2010. The starting pay has went down since then. I'm being paid over $21 an hour. The good thing about being an RCA is that even if you get done in 7 hours, you still get paid whatever the route's evaluated at. (Usually around 9 hours)

Cons

It's extremely hard work. Almost up there with construction work. Lots of heavy lifting. Twisting. Turning. Standing. Bending. Walking. And you have to be in a hurry most days. Most people have back problems after years of this type of work. It will take a toll on your body. Don't go over 40 hrs (Sat-Fri). If you hit 40 hrs u get paid hourly not evaluated. Sometimes if you go way over it helps bc you get paid time & 1/2 for ever hour over 40. Don't volunteer for anything, but always do what you're told. Let them know if you think you will need help to get back before 6pm (or whatever dispatch is in your office.) Call at 1 or 2 pm. Try to not be vocal to RCA's about disliking other people. You will dislike some people in a high stress job like this but keep it to yourself. RCA's & rural carriers are usually chatty Cathy's and the whole office will know anything you say.lol Try not to overachieve, bc if you do you will be called first. Try to work as fast as you can for the first month or so but then start taking it slower. You don't want to be the "best RCA" or you'll have to pull others' weight.
