Pros

Absolutely nothing, and I'm being extremely honest.

Cons

Toxic/Stressful/Chaotic work environment. Rules/Guidelines are made up daily only to benefit the company Doing the work of a converted employee, yet only being paid at a PSE rate. The new thing is Lunches are being held hostage until you run all your mail. PSE's are really treated less than human. We are running mail zones with just as much if not more mail than converted employees then still having to stay to dispatch the converted employees zones because they stretched their mail out so they wouldn't have to dispatch. Upper management mostly talks to people like they are the gum on the bottom of someone's shoe. Cursing at people and screaming is a daily thing. The supervisors aren't much better. And when you're a great worker you get used !!!! You're put on heavy zones alone with no help often.

Doesn't Pay Well

Pros

If you're lucky, you'll have a decent office with management that won't hound you for every little detail of work. Once you're on the road, it's only you so you wont have anyone breathing down your back.

Cons

The position is physically demanding and many offices have management that will not follow the carrier contracts which then leads to union grievances. The pay takes almost double the amount of time max out. If you want to get into a position outside of delivery then it becomes about who you know, which translates into many internal lateral moves before applicants even get a chance to break free of being a carrier. Look up NALC pay chart for salary. Table 2 City Carrier and City Carrier Technician. The steps range from AA to P. Each letter is assigned a salary.

Pros

Decent benefits, regular raises, pretty good pay compared to carriers. Great job if you have a high tolerance for boredom and toxicity. No drug test, no interview, just a simple reading comprehension test.

Cons

The most stressful job I've ever worked. You start off as a temp employee, and if you call out even once in your first 90 days you'll be on your last leg. Your schedule is supposed to not change without at least a week's notice, but supervisors and managers will text or call you to change your schedule sometimes less than 8 hours before they want you to come in. Yes, you can get the union and file a grievance, but they still want you to come in and work those hours. I had quit smoking cigarettes but this job made me take it back up. And even at the stations where management was pretty good, the customers or carriers would make up for that. It's like 30% of the work force is constantly looking for a fight, because they all hate their jobs. It's impossible to get anybody fired once they go regular, I literally had a carrier tell me to "catch me outside," threatening me, a federal employee, and nothing was done. Nothing.
