CCA's go in with your eyes wide open

Pros

Once you learn the routes, learn to write down your packages and thumb through the mail, not finger the mail, this job is doable.

Cons

My manager is absolutely horrible but the supervisors look out for us for the most part. There is a lot of negativity in the work place but once you develop thick skin you will survive your first 90 days. Time constraints are by far the worst part of the job because your phone will be going off every minute with management asking where you are and how long you will take to get back to the station. By the way no one will ever tell you "Good job!" EVER! ! Good job management for making me write the truth, you deserve it.

Pros

Delivering mail, the best part for me was being outside away from people. I delivered where it snowed, so winter was an issue for me, moving north from the south. Though the job sucked, 15 and hour is a living wage and I was grateful to have it.

Cons

None of the supervising staff has any idea what they are doing. Not immediate supervisors, not the Post Master, no one. They just jam meaningless numbers down your throat and try to keep you to times that can't be met unless you run, and we do not get paid to run. I personally got written up for missing work for a doctors appointment and a funeral within the same 3 month period even though I had notes for both and they were both "excused". Now if you can become a regular and you want to deal with working for the government until you retire, be my guest, but I would not suggest being a CCA. As a CCA I had to work 6 days a week 10-12 hr. shifts each day during the winter, spring and some of summer. Since CCA'S don't have sick leave, if you are absent weather it is excused or not you are using your vacation time, which you earn 4 hours of a paycheck. Some CCA'S had to work 7 day weeks during the christmas season to deliver packages. It's a daily grind and hassle of a job. I would take it over fast food, but if you can get into management or the oil fields or anything that pays similar or not far off, do that instead. I can only scratch the surface of what a pain it is to work for the United States Post Office.

Pros

Nice pay to begin with. Freedom once you leave the office.

Cons

Work-life balance is very hard. I have a 7 month old daughter and wish I spend more time with her, but I need to work to pay the bills and make sure she has everything she needs. Also hard to find time to have quality time in my relationship. Some supervisors DO NOT have people skills and know how to talk to employees and be tactful in conversations.
