Pros

Not sure there are any, except enjoy working with the local community.

Cons

The positions are not permanent, you are expected to work 6 days a week, sometimes morning till night with a 4-5 hour lunch in between. After 360 days are let go for a week and then re-hired like a new employee. The positions are not career with no retirement or security for a future. They expect you to give your all for no future in return. Plus, regular career employee's that are secure sometimes don't feel they have to give it their all that is working next to someone that is dedicated for half the pay!

Pros

The pay is decent. I'm assigned to a big route and work one day a week or whenever the regular takes vacation/sick days. I make as much in one day as some people make on minimum wage in two or three days. Mail carriers are basically on their own when on the route - no supervisors breathing down your neck.

Cons

Being and RCA is hard on your vehicle. Paint will get scratched, you'll go through brakes and rotors about once a month if you work every day. The company is a slowly sinking ship, reporting enormous revenue losses. It's slowly becoming a package delivery service as opposed to mail. The mail volume has nearly cut in half, while the parcel volume has nearly doubled. You won't get a full-time job until the regular carrier dies or retires, which can take a very long time.

Pros

I've been an rca for almost a year now, and even though there are some terrible days, I generally enjoy it. Coworkers are great, the mangers at my "home" station are awesome, both have been carriers so they understand it can be stressful and don't expect anyone to be super human. Good starting pay, good benefits once you become regular.

Cons

Very very very bad upper management. They really don't care about the carriers well being and have no problem pushing you to your limits. Flexibility in the schedule is very limited, even for an appointment. Those few bad carriers who call in regularily or are just plain lazy.
