Pros

Exercise all day by walking. Keeps you in great shape. Pension once you convert to regular carrier. New contract might make pay better, but it's been delayed over a year and this union is insanely weak on bargaining. If pay jumps to $25 or ideally $30/hr, it'll be a great job again.

Cons

Extra work for better/faster employees. Base pay is very low for the physical toll of the job. Shorter routes are 6-7 miles of walking a day and the longer routes are easily 10 or even 12 miles of walking for some of the worst. This is outside in the rain, snow, 95 degrees, lightning, doesn't matter. Management is beholden to the union, which seems to be the absolute weakest union I've ever been a part of (of the three). Carriers were starting at $30/hr 15 years ago and still the union hasn't gotten the starting pay back to that despite the insane cost of living inflation. I cannot afford to live in the worst areas of the city.
