Long, irregular hours with no benefits is not worth the vague promise of a career position.
Pros
- Great pay. - There really aren't any other pros in my experience. But glassdoor says I need at least five words here.
Cons
- Very long, irregular hours that are never the same. It makes having a personal/family life or having a second job very difficult if not outright impossible. - No benefits. - Poor training. You'll often be dumped right into regular work after orientation without any job-specific training (or with very little training). The zip codes, route numbering and procedures take time to learn and you will be treated with impatience and frustration from most senior employees when you ask for help or clarification. - No health insurance until you become a career employee. - The time it takes to become a career employee (with health insurance and other benefits) is completely random and dependent almost completely on someone vacating a career position. So it could happen in four months or it could take like six years. - You'll be working long hours without a break and will sometimes work weeks at a time without a day off. - The work itself is very physically demanding.
