Pros

Pay, Benefits, Outdoors, Holidays off, & if you need money orders or passport, can handle it while you at work.

Cons

Pay(should make more) ABSOLUTELY no work life balance. Have a family, spouse, hobby, hell anything outside of the job.. forget about it. The steal by changing clock rings, hide mail, harass and belittle employees, management is almost 1000% someone who knows someone or sleeping with someone never anyone who actually knows the job. Been working there for 3years and 7 months, the highest turnover Ive ever seen in my life at any job. Just since Ive been at my office which is small only 22 routes 19 have quit I will soon be number 20. Management is horrible, they tell a bunch of lies. Older crowd but usually postal workers are chatty pattys so alot of drama.

Pros

Decent pay Plenty of overtime Perfect for single person with no spouse or kids looking to work 45+ hrs a week If you're good at brown nosing this is the place for you, the more brown nosing you do the less work required of you and the more favors given to you Free, easy parking

Cons

Most weekends and EVERY holiday is mandatory for PSE's Favoritism - nasty, petty, juvenile. vindictive supervisors who can be brought with favors like buying them lunch, ordering the most items from them when they sell candy for their kids school which is against company policy but done in plain sight, etc. PSE's get no respect, spoken to and yelled at like children by supervisors Mandatory 2-4hr overtime called with no advance notice (just as you think you're about to go home they announce overtime leave and they will start the ball rolling to fire you unless you're one of the people they favor) No work/life balance you never know what time you're getting off work each day - depends on mail volume and if you're on good terms with a supervisor Union ignores contract rules being broken for favors (to get themselves taken off machines, extended breaks, etc) Mgmt always threatening to fire you if you can't work overtime or take a day off (your body will eventually need an unscheduled day off after working 10-12hrs a day, 6 days a week) Too many schedule changes with no advance notice Male employees favored and promoted to lead clerk positions over female employees because majority supervisors are older, desperate women looking for attention at this plant and all the guys have to do is flirt and give them some attention Supervisors sleeping with employees, nude pics of supervisors passed around. senior mgmt aware and do nothing Very tense and often unsafe and dirty work environment PSE's overworked and treated like dirt on the bottom of mgmts shoes while regular career employees enjoy all the benefits PSE's pay union fees but have no representation union only fights for career employees while contract rules are broken daily against PSE's PSE's often asked to work thru their breaks and lunches to pump out the mail which is a safety issue complain and you're targeted. Career employees are never asked to work thru breaks/lunches and if they do union files a complaint and they are paid a grievance. Equipment is old and ancient and often broken. Get hurt and it's always your fault, you get written up.
