      Good pay and benefits, but leave your brain and creativity at home. Input is not encouraged.

      Pros

      Good pay and benefits for the skills required to do the job. Very secure. Six years of service and you basically have a job for life as long as you show up and do your job.

      Cons

      Management makes no effort to encourage input from workforce to improve efficiency or service. Often seems like a deadend job requiring zero creativity or really any thought at all, nor is any wanted from management. Communication is often via intimidation. A real military-like, ask no questions relationship is propagated by management. Do as your told, even if there might be a better, more efficient, common-sense approach.

      Pros

      Steady checks. Few if any layoffs. Union representation. Paid vacation, sick, holidays. TSP (401K) and retirement.

      Cons

      Lazy management and co-workers. Most workers, even supervision, has a GED at best. Really value the minority employee to the detriment of the non-minority employee.

      Postal Service still a good place to work.

      Pros

      Fairly stable and secure. Progressive relative to other government agencies. Until recently a place with opportunities for those willing to relocate and work hard.

      Cons

      Right now, because of the economy and the resulting decreasing mail volumes a panic seems to have taken hold. We seem to be grasping at anything to stop the bleeding. Apparently, there was no rainy day plan.
