Pros

Pay is great, and so are benefits. I applied and was hired for a small town PO. It was great. Part-time, great location, relatively easy work. When working in main PO, co-workers are good people.

Cons

As a PSE, you have no set schedule and are on call. A lot of times I didn't get to work my own office, having to cover somewhere else. The main facility in Ada is always short on help, and work is physically demanding. If a career (full time position) becomes available, you HAVE TO TAKE IT or quit. You are not given a choice. There, the hours are long and unpredictable. Rarely given any breaks except lunch.

Pros

Some person at US Postal Service said, once you are permanent (which could take as long as 2 years) you could have a good career.

Cons

I accepted an offer then had to decline it for wasting my time so no, I never worked for them officially. The process to get employed with them was just bad; multiple errors: postmaster assistant email address and times for orientation. I received a "conditional offer letter", multiple emails (took drug test, fingerprinted, ID badge) Nov 4. I waited and waited and had to call post master of my location to see if I'm in the group for orientation, waited again. Finally, when I got my ID badge I had an informal meet and greet where she said an RCA may be guaranteed 1 day a week and later after a year or 2 (seniority is met)could be permanent full-time. She said didn't you get your official meet and greet with a real person and 'No, I didn't. Finally Dec 7th was orientation and I just didn't have any wind in my sails for this position. When you do 1 day a week, you don't get benefits and you don't necessarily get a choice of days. What a waste of time!

Pros

Pay, don't have any other pros but I needed five words

Cons

Backstabbers; office politics; dangerous buildings filled with lead paint, asbestos, and mold; longgg hours; poor benefits (health insurance is unaffordable, no sick leave for subs, can't use annual and even if you could, it adds up so slowly that by the time you reach your unpaid mandatory break you'll need it to cover that, uniforms are hand-me-downs from others and filthy, getting new ones from management is like pulling teeth); dangerous conditions since you're not in neighborhoods when the regulars are more dogs will be out than when they deliver, angrier customers because you're not "on time"; management will assign you multiple routes but when you get injured it's your fault for not being safe; vehicles that give out noxious fumes and have no AC in summer and often no heat or defrost in winter, brakes give out frequently and I've even seen first-hand a time when I took out the key and the engine was still on...... I could keep going but I think you get the picture. RUN.
