Pros

You'll lose weight, meet some pretty cool customers.

Cons

Terrible pay for work load. No garuntee. Heavy lifting, fast paced, hard on your body, like high school all over again. Power positions given to the wrong people. Horribly treated by higher ups. Of course it's the government so money is being spent in all the wrong places instead of the people who do the ground work. They preach safety yet everywhere you turn is a safety hazard that can't be prevented always. Don't say your hurt or in pain because NO ONE listens.

Pros

The job isnt physically demanding and can be really enjoyable, talking with people along your route is great and being in the rural craft, we are on an evaluated hour scale. If a route evaluates at 8 hours thats all you get. If i choose to talk with someone on the route and build customer relations, im not riding a clock but if i choose to bust my butt and get done in 6 or 7 hours because i want to get home then i still make the same money.

Cons

Being a part timer means your bring home check is all over the place and can be really stressful being thrown from route to route. The mail relies heavily on each individual persons memory as we are dealing with thousands of names and addresses each day. Just something as simple as casing the mail can be a chore if you dont know the route or case as everyone is different. If you make the evaluated time on a route you dont know then youve been a sub carrier for at least 7 or 8 years.

Pros

Pay is above average compared to occupations requiring a bachelor's degree.

Cons

Very physically demanding. Number of hours worked daily usually exceed scheduled 8 hour shift. As a Postal Support Employee you will work every holiday and weekend. Hours of shift may change without notice, also additional hours worked are usually without notice, this itself creates a difficult lifestyle balance due to impromptu childcare/animal care issues, college class schedule and/or medical appointments.
