Pros

Large company with opportunities for advancement in other major markets across the U.S.

Cons

It is a challenging time in the media industry with Gannett stock at an all time low. Company is downsizing and trying to squeeze more and more efficiency out of each employee. Reporter being encouraged to learn new skills and transition to Multi-media Journalists, shooting video and producing content for multiple platforms.

Pros

It is a major media company, good for any journalist. It has the resources to do more when it wants to spend money. As opposed to Media General they don't have contracts for all positions, and pay better. Benefits are okay, but like anywhere health plans are changing. Gannett offers some corperate discounts. Gannett seems to be active in changing its business model to include more new media and is open to new ideas in media, i.e. mobile, web, etc.

Cons

Newspaper exposure means profits are down, and stock is dropping which means the company match in the 401k isn't worth much.

Pros

Great base salary. Good healthcare package. Nice people and very friendly environment.

Cons

Bad communication from management to sales level. Poor communication between production dept. and sales. Not good setup for sales to work directly with graphic designers. No face-to-face talk. Only thru webproofing. Although great base salary, bad commission plan because capped out at 120%. No incentive to exceed 120%. Sales Force is unionized so when layoffs happen, they pull from the bottom & most lease seniored, even though the least seniored person may be a harder worker than the others.
