      Working for Gannett feels like you're on the lower class levels of the Titanic.

      Pros

      There are locations across the world, and they do hire from within first.

      Cons

      Gannett is laying off people right and left and management is pretty tight lipped about the decisions they're making that directly effect the employees. Not only are they laying off people, but the CEO is giving himself huge raises. Also, when you're hired your job responsibilities are one thing, in one year, your responsibilities will have doubled while your salary barely improves.

      Pros

      Interesting industry. Over 100 locaitons to move to.

      Cons

      Industry on the downside. It's a classic top-down management style. Top management is extremely country club. It's a culture there they are used to treating people similar to the respect they give their newspaper delivery carrriers. The top 10% of performers are identified for promotion, the rest can be invisible.

      Pros

      Sense of family created in working environment gets me up in the morning. It's nice to work with people who value you as a person, not just an asset. One of best things (probably the best thing) is that being in a competitive market means management will let you try anything.

      Cons

      Too much micro-managing. Managers aren't too quick at recognizing good work or, worse, bad work. The wrong people tend to be the ones who get recognition and promotion. Our jaunt into hyperlocal news started great, but ended badly. While all the sidewalk-pounding was going on, the real news was left behind.
