Pros

The members you serve. The colleagues you work with. Good benefits (not great).

Cons

Ok so the problem is once you get a full time job (yay), you will have to fight tooth and nail to get promoted. Unless, you have a strong network. Like any other corporation having a churn, when new leadership/ decision makers come in, they bring in their own people to middle management. The new middle management (or existing) under the new management is stuck with what they are told to do leaving individual contributors in a limbo and a zero chance to move up the ladder. In short, if you want to stay at the same level you entered the organization, go for it, it is a good company to work for. But if your ambition is to grow, get promoted and make a difference at a bigger level, know the decision makers well or pray more often.

Pros

Fairly flexible schedule, steady paycheck. Ability to work from home for most people.

Cons

IT issues are ALWAYS a problem. Seriously a company as large and rich as USAA needs to put money into their phone and computer system that doesn't constantly crash. It is a horrible experience to deal with this on a daily basis. I probably spend more time on the IT Service Desk than I do for my lunches and breaks combined. I hear many complaints about it each day. There is also very little growth opportunity to get off the phones. I can no longer take it. I am tired of being yelled at for stuff I cannot control. They have also significantly cut the bonuses and benefits recently and it keeps going down from there.
