      Great culture & compensation, IT culture is improving

      Pros

      USAA is a very ethical company. They believe in their core values. USAA cares about their members, which says a lot about a for profit bank.

      Cons

      USAA's infrastructure has been extremely poor. Any new java developer will feel lost. Things are getting better with the company embracing containerization and many open source industry standards. Some IT managers are completely incompetent.

      Pros

      Bonuses? But even then that's why other companies have a higher base pay. They will pay a good portion towards college so you can apply somewhere else. :)

      Cons

      Micromanagement. Very difficult to advance. You better have a masters degree if you want them to even look at you after being hired. Management thinks of you as an expensive license and not a person. You have to work endless OT for them to take notice. Back to back to back call center environment. Literally terrible. Apply anywhere else.

      If you like structure and order, this may be the place for you. I commend USAA for working hard to hire veterans and their spouses.

      Cons

      If it is not in your DNA to work like a drone, beware. Within the last few months, I've met a number of mental health professionals who have stated there are many current and former employees requiring mental health care because of work related stress. This was echoed to me by a healthcare professional working in the USAA clinic who stated in increase in numbers of this is alarming.
