Pros

Great "cookie cutter" sales tools for small to middle market prospects. OMNI and ONE are really nice "repackaged" Advisen and powerpoint information.

Cons

Producers are turned into glorified telemarketers, with little time to grow in profession. Sales pitch we use is not matched with a good level of services and resource staff. Producer has to service what he/she sells for lack of backroom resources. Was a producer for 15 years and was happy to get out of this environment. The grass is greener on other side of the fence.

A good place to work...for certain roles

Pros

If you are in sales (producer), while you are heavily scrutinized, you are the most important people for USI. Compensation can be amazing for top performing producers. However, Account management, operations, and administrative roles are all after thoughts for USI and it's leadership. Technology used to be very dated, but I've seen it improve quite a bit in the last few years from the computers we use, to the CRM system, to the online hr portal.

Cons

If you aren't a producer,be prepared to be ignored and treated like a disposable asset. The company is extremely outdated in its mentality and will lose and stop attracting millennial talent at the current pace. Raises, even for basic cost of living adjustments are not a given. This was conveniently not mentioned during the recruiting process. In fact in any given year, most people do not receive a raise of any kind, and many people I know have gone several years without a raise. Any raise needs to be approved by a single executive in corporate, which is crazy for a 4500 person company. There is no value placed on the performance review process, and it is not used as a tool to help employees improve. It's done once a year, and they don't even have additional reviewers brought into the feedback process, the manager does it 100% in a silo, which is really bizarre since you and your manager may not work together regularly.
