Pros

Pros: - Good Compensation - Nice office facilities - Smart and ambitious co-workers - Good medical benefits - well intentioned leadership - Collaborative sales environment

Cons

The Select small commercial practice is essentially a revenue and sales metric farm marketed as a development program to mid-market. Rigorous interview process that makes ambitious promises to incoming Select producers about the USI process but fails to deliver on any these promises. Recruiters and Practice leaders over prepare producers from the interviews all the way to the onboarding process creating a sense of exhaustion only after a few months. Many of my co-workers went through 7+ interviews only to leave a few months after being hired this is quite common in Select which is a red flag. They have a intense producer training process called Academy which is a boot camp for role playing, cold calling and power point presentation, its actually a good way to learn but the caveat is you will be expected to hit your metics after losing two whole days prospecting. New Producers are literally inundated during academy. USI created a great process originally designed for mid-market and then repurposed it to small commercial. Unfortunately, the USI process doesn’t work well when scaled down to small commercial, it’s too slow and cumbersome. The reality is business owners rarely change their brokers and if they do you need to win on price or find a costly error by the incumbent broker. Pathway to victory is very specific in Select which is why there is high turnover. Marketing and Account Management is a sweatshop, they’re all overworked and understaffed. Omni platform is a low tech lackluster PowerPoint generator that adds very little value to small commercial clients. Leadership has good intention and the people at USI are talented and ambitious. I love the people just don’t find the Select practice to be a good opportunity.

Pros

A steady paycheck, there are some amazing individuals there that are amazing to work with, good benefits.

Cons

They will constantly increase the load on you and expect no reduction in performance, no rewards, no bonus, no increase in pay (lets just say its not an equal opportunity employment). USI itself is a great company to work for, but FutureComp (which is owned by USI or something like that) is not a great company to work for. The turnover is high (for 2yrs of my employment, I've seen and heard to many people quit either from bad management, or employee conflicts). In my experience and many others who have had the seat before me had the same experience. Although there are some great/honest/caring people there to work with, the Cons outweigh the pros. If you end up working here, it should be a pit stop for you, once you find another opportunity...Run away and never look back. I cannot recommend this place at all!
