Pros

The Agent side of U.S. Cellular is alot different than retail. Things don't have to be so cookie-cutter like the retail stores, so it gives you more room to be yourself and do things your way. U.S. Cellular as a whole is a nice place to work. They focus on "doing what's right" for the customer, so you don't feel like a sleazy lying salesperson who will sell the customer anything to make a buck. For the most part they treat us well.

Cons

Agents get paid MUCH less than retail employees who do exactly the same thing. There is also no way for an agent employee to apply to work at a retail store without being unemployed by the agent for at least a month. For people who have families to support, this is usually not very practical. Retail employees get to participate in contests, do fun corporate activities, and when inventory is being rationed, such as a phone that EVERYONE wants...they get them all. Plus U.S. Cellular just re-structured commissions - huge pay cut for us, profits for them go way up.

Pros

The pay is very fair for the work performed, and the benefits are excellent. Full time positions get sick days, personal time, and vacation. You get a free cell phone and plan(although they make your number available to all customers) and you can add phones for up to 3 of your friends or family members at a ridiculously low price.

Cons

A constant stream of corporate doublespeak hits your e-mail account daily. This company pretends that they are doing something good for their customers while they try to stick them for every last dime possible. It's a profit driven business; just be honest about it and stop pretending like you're helping people. It makes it hard to sleep at night sometimes. Commissions are almost never paid the way they are supposed to be. Make sure you track your own sales and check your pay at the end of the month or you will definitely not receive fair pay. If you dispute these "errors" you will get paid, but you have to keep track of it. Senior leadership values enthusiasm and commitment to the company over talent, intelligence, or hard work. Communications from senior leaders come off as if they were trying to explain something to small children.

Pros

Pay and benefits excellent in compared to other jobs in the area. Training and yearly meeting was fun It was great the first couple years

Cons

Their expectations of employees are way to high. They want perfection all the time. Stressful work environment People get fired for little mistakes, or if you dare speak up about any concerns. They claim there are advancement opportunities, but when you try for them you are blocked unless you go the path they want you to.
