Pros

The University setting is friendly oriented.

Cons

The department I worked for was very controlling. It wasn't a pleasant place to work. The administration has no interest in the well-being of its staff.

Pros

There are some great people, with great attitudes. Little to no corporate politics in smaller departments but a lot in larger departments. They host a few fun social activities for employees each year.

Cons

Salaries are not competitive with other employers in the market for administrative employees and are significantly low. No bonus, no cost of living increases, once a year merit raises that are not very high in percentage overall.

Pros

Job security because they can't fire you unless you do something horrible

Cons

Even the worst employees don't get fired. My coworker was miserable and let everyone know it, but was staying to get vested.
