Pros

I worked here as an undergrad and was hired on as a full-time employee after graduation. It is a great job for what it is. The pay is reasonable right out of school. The benefits are standard since you work for the state. Vacation, sick leave, and personal time are awesome! You get a lot of time and all the vacation rolls over. HR always seems to want to help and generally people are nice and helpful.

Cons

You are part of a very, very large institution, so you have to be your own advocate if you are in need of anything. The office culture depends on what department and division you work in. The first division I worked in felt like a big family and the second one felt like a bunch of middle-school cliques.

Horrible

Pros

Low insurance rates. Benefits for 401k, life insurance, and tuition reimbursement are good. Some of the supervisors are good to work with.

Cons

Management not in touch with employees. Manager makes excuses for all the employees leaving. HR received many complaints from several staff but same issues continue. Bully environment, staff being yelled at, verbal abuse allowed. Manager wondering why the morale is so low.

Pros

Benefits, stimulating environment, lots of great co workers. Focus on promoting from within. Lots of interesting projects and are always new things to be learned.

Cons

Wish there were part time opportunities, not all full time . They recently eliminated flex time and seem to be less interested in fostering a positive work-life balance compared to previous years....so they seem less interested than they used to be in retaining experienced staff. The ways promotions were handled was inconsistent. Not much upward mobility unless you want to be in management. Often involved in projects that require a lot of extra hours...need to assert boundaries to not get caught up working lots of extra hours.
