We’re sorry to hear that your experience at UMA is not living up to your expectations. We do want you to know that you do have the power to make a difference by speaking with your department head or HR. They are the best point of contact to help you improve your job satisfaction and help you get the most out of your time at UMA. You can control your own destiny and we hope you do speak with someone soon. We care a great deal about our employees and want them to have the best experience possible during their time here, that is why we ask that you speak with someone so that we can help. We wish you the best of luck and thanks again for the feedback.

Pros

Pay was pretty good starting out. There was usually extra hours available by doing review sessions on Saturdays or completing clinical checks for students.

Cons

There is no training as a new instructor and you are required to start day one with no curriculum or real course objectives. Programs are pretty expensive for students and it was hard seeing them take out more and more loans and not be educated on how and when they have to pay them back.

We always welcome feedback from our instructors who play a vital role in our organization and ultimately the success of our students. We expect instructors to provide feedback in real-time while they are employed, so that we can make effective changes more progressively. We’re concerned to hear you felt there is no training, though. When an individual is hired, they report to our corporate facility (a few miles from the campus) for initial training and development where we cover all the usual and customary elements of orienting new staff members to the team at UMA. After completion of the first part of the orientation, new faculty members report back to the campus where they work closely with the program director and/or lead instructor to cover areas including: Administrative Procedures, Testing and Grading, Attendance, Classroom Procedures, Who’s Who, Teaching Techniques, Tour of Facilities, and so on. Syllabi and curriculum are clearly set out in the course objectives to which each instructor has access. Of course (pardon the pun), things can happen very quickly if we lose a faculty member in the middle of a session and need to bring aboard a new member quickly. But we only hire faculty we believe are capable of succeeding in our dynamic environment, and then provide support to ensure success. We’re sorry that this training and preparation did not meet your expectations and wish you all the best in your future endeavors.

I can see that you don’t enjoy working at UMA. We want you to know you can influence your experience in a positive manner. You have the opportunity to impact your experience by speaking with HR to discuss your frustrations. They are the best point of contact to help you improve your experience, but you control that, not your co-workers. Our top performers are rewarded for hard work and results, and we feel strongly that they’ve earned the recognition they receive. As we continue to grow at UMA we will continue to work to provide the best opportunities to not only our staff but also the students that we serve. That includes working with our accrediting body to ensure our student experience is nothing but exceptional. We care deeply about the education and opportunities that we provide for our students and we are sorry to hear that you feel that we do not. That is why we ask that you work with someone to help. We wish you the best of luck on your future endeavors.
