Pros

These reviews seem to be dedicated to those who have had negative experiences working at Umbra. From the perspective of someone who has been employed there for many years, I can honestly say that though challenging at times (as all work places are), my personal experiences here have been rewarding. This company is innovative and creative. People really care about design, and there are a lot of smart and talented people past and present who have had great careers here.

Cons

Business decisions often change, as do designs (more than people would like) but there is a bigger picture that not everyone is involved in. This is a big, complicated ship and not everyone agrees with the way it is running, but all must admit that it is growing, and products and distribution-better than ever! This is not a corporate environment....to work here, you need to understand that there are decisions that need to made quickly and that may reslut in interactions with personalities that you may not appreciate. At the end of the day though, you must appreciate the people, the products and the outcome. Sure. There are some things that could be better, and I cannot speak for personal experiences of others, but in general, this has been a pretty outstanding experience for me

Pros

My co-workers were wonderful people. Umbra does a great job of tracking down creative, energetic, talented employees. They also host a number of social events where you have the opportunity to spend time with other employees, especially people you don't ordinarily work closely with.

Cons

The down side is they never take the time to see the potential of their own employees. I knew colleagues who had worked there for 2+ years without even a raise in salary! They never promote from within and don't like the idea of change.

Pros

The co-workers you'll meet are wonderful! By the end, they were the only thing keeping me there.

Cons

- There's a VERY high turn-around. Face the fact - if they don't like you they'll find a reason to cut you. And they WILL cut you eventually. - The exec team doesn't know what they want. They preach about being innovative, original, and being true to design but when you try and pitch new ideas they hate it. - There's WAY too many revisions made. Sometimes designers will spend 6 months working on something that will get cut right before line review. - A lot of overtime. Just don't bother having another life.
