Pros

A well run upstanding company concerned with the safety, the environment, a free and fair workplace, and working towards growth by re-investing in the company and in the needed maintenance of updates of the system. For someone in IT there is a wide variety of systems, software, challenges and engrossing problems. Because of the real-world nature of the problems that we work on, and the necessity for detailed planning and careful operations, it's almost as thrilling and exacting as being back in the military. The potential for disaster is great and the qualtity of the work is therefore very important.

Cons

Lots of travel - 24/7 -

Pros

A solid company with little fear of job loss. Benefit package best in the business. Enjoy working with other employees. Health benefits include 24 hrs fitness for employee and reduced rate for family members. Many pro-health programs for employees and family members that allow employee to concentrate on job and not worry about daily worries. You learn many positions and can advance very quickly if you are willing to relocate.

Cons

Odd working hours and days off. Not a good job for young families because time devoted to work. Forget holidays with family; you are working for the railroad. Lots of overtime so home life can suffer. Dangerous working conditions are possible so safety is stressed and demanded by all employees and management. If you drink or take drugs you wont work for the railroad. The hiring process is "brutal" and not a quick process. Once hired you have ninety days probation before the job is yours. Not all make it.
