Do Not Work Here

Pros

The salary would be considered decent if based on a 40-hour work week. However, plan on working 60+ hours per week.

Cons

There is no work-life balance. Expect to work 60 - 80 hours per week on a regular basis. I was an industrious and diligent employee who received great performance reviews and several promotions. I sacrificed a lot for this company, working 80+ hours a week for a few years and I even relocated my family to Omaha. I worked for the company for almost ten years, but didn't qualify for railroad retirement until my position moved to Omaha. I was laid off two months' shy of qualifying for railroad retirement. Surprised? No. This company does not value its employees and will do whatever it deems necessary to save a dollar. Please heed my advice and do not work here. You will regret it.

Pros

Retirement if you make it Medical insurance.

Cons

Morale is a dumpster fire and the ego maniac CEO is oblivious to the pulse of the company. Every employee from crafts up to management is constantly on edge and worried about our job. The people who are left after the layoffs we've had so far feel trapped by the retirement and benefits. From the looks of it those look to be going away during future negotiations. No sick pay and strict vacation scheduling policies Nobody I work with would reccomend union pacific to a friend or family. Stay away until the Fritz era is over. They speak highly of safety but have been relaxing safety minded rules to increase efficiency. 5 fatalities in the past year. I can keep going but you get the point by now.
