Pros

Good pay and benefits. Union jobs that are almost impossible to be fired from. You can come to work everyday and not have anything expected of you and it doesn't really matter if you did anything or not.

Cons

The management has no clue what is going on. The foreman just wing it and the employees do what they want. There are no standards so it changes everyday as the management sees fit. A lot of the senior guys have a disgruntled attitude which gives the place a negative vibe. Most people have been here over five years and wouldn't know where to start if they actually had to troubleshoot something. Jobs are seniority bases so the only thing that gets you ahead is time. Hard Work, knowledge, skill, and craftsmanship are non-existent. There are no sick days and after eight years you get one personal day. Every night, weekend, and holiday are just regular old working days. They preach that "the best ones to improve the work are the one who do it" but never listen to ideas.

Pros

Incredible history. Railroad retirement, if you can hang on A lot of great people still holding on to their jobs Pay and benefits used to be good, and this job market will eventually bring it back.

Cons

Management is trying to squeeze every drop of "productivity" with as few employees as possible, which means long hours, high workloads and not enough people to do the work. Careers can be unstable, as they abruptly alternate between mass hiring (because they need more work done) and mass firing (because stockholders demand more profits) Toxic culture throughout the entire company

Pros

Some really good employees and used to have some good Forman

Cons

Almost everything, management is always out to get you, they get their jollies off on punishment and termination. They will lay you off, bring you back, and lay you off again with absolutely zero regard to how that affects you and your family. Your union griever actually works for the company do the unions are among the weakest in the country. Competitively your pension, pay, Healthcare package, and quality of life is dismal compared to other real unions. The management will almost constantly lie to your face about required production levels and how your crew is performing. You will constantly be worried about if you will have a job the next day.
