Pros

The salary and benefits are comparable to other large railroads.

Cons

The company has taken a turn for the worst. Sadly despite making record profits, executives continue to slash jobs for financial gain. The employees that remain are not sure what their future holds and are constantly on edge with threats of more layoffs. There is no work life balance due to the layoffs and extra responsibilities that are being placed on front line managers. The only positive thing is that the checks never bounce.

Pros

Great to work with all different types of people with different backgrounds.

Cons

Employees safety is consistantly at risk and the work force is being subjected to a negative work environment. This year as of October 2019...5 people have died because of it. Current workers are battling a loss of employment because of the downsizing and corporate greed. The trains are longer and workers are pushed to the brink of failure. I was a model employee. I went above and beyond of what was expected of me. I walked away on my own terms with my life just like the 70 or so machinists that left Union Pacific Los Angeles region. Union Pacific is evolving and the changes always end with cycling out great standout class A employees from different trades. Don'T Put yourself or your family through this.

Pros

Retirement if it's still there when you retire. pay used to be good but hasn't moved in 10 years. The people are great to work with

Cons

Management has no idea how to do anything and will blame you for everything. From the moment you get hired they will be trying to fire you. they use intimidation as motivation
