Pay Isn’t Worth It

Pros

The pay and retirement are good. Worked with some really good people.

Cons

Upper management is only worried about cutting everything including jobs no matter what the effect it has on everyone and the railroad to get the operating ratio low to please shareholders. The environment became very toxic and extremely negative. Worked nights, weekends, holidays with more than twelve hour rotating shifts. You cover your own vacations and they expect you to be there no matter what you have going on in your family life or if you are sick. There were employees throwing up at the desks cause they were told they could not call in. Working there was a detriment to my health. They under appreciate everyone’s efforts. I feel much healthier and appreciated since leaving. Really think if the pay is worth it.

Cons

Terrible place to work at. Morale is super low. Management is awful. Furloughs every 2-3 years. Out of the 9 years I’ve been there I have been furlough 3 times for a total of 3 years.
